Description

Food for Thought
Agriculture, Marketing, and Genetic Engineering

Every meal has a history most people never taste.

Before there were scribes, feeding a family meant reading the seasons, turning wild grass into wheat, and pressing olives by hand — technology so decisive it stars in whole sections of the Bible. This class carries that story forward — from the terraced hillsides and olive presses of ancient Israel to the greenhouses, marketing, and genetic engineering that decide what lands on our plates today. And it leaves a real question, not a trivia fact: when we learn to rewrite a living thing’s genetic instructions, are we doing something entirely new — or just the latest version of a very old human habit?

This class is part of The Museum Guy’s Homeschool History Course — weekly bilingual Zoom classes on Jewish history, archaeology and world history, plus monthly in-person museum meetups around Israel, taught by Nachliel Selavan.
