My mother uses a rock to make gravlax (as a weight). Delicious gravlax.

It is a rock that looks like it belongs on the side of a building in Jerusalem, those “Jerusalem Stones” with a belly.

But this no ordinary rock. Like everything in our house, it has a story. Not a story from the time of Nebuchadnezzar, nor from the time of Alexander the Great. This one is form the time of Teddy Kollek, the Mayor of Jerusalem (1965-1993).
